The aryl hydrocarbon receptor interacting protein (AIP) gene is abundantly expressed in normal somatotrophs. Somatotropinomas in patients with germline AIP mutations (AIPmut) are typically more aggressive than non-AIPmut adenomas and associated with higher GH/IGF1 secretion.
